Hi, I’m Lauren — a buttercream enthusiast, flower-on-cake fanatic, and all-round hospitality human with a soft spot for sweet things and beautifully curated moments.
My cake journey officially kicked off when I studied Patisserie in Johannesburg. Midway through my studies, I landed an opportunity that changed everything — a full-time pastry role at the One&Only Cape Town, just in time for the festive madness of December 2017. For two incredible years, I whisked, folded, and piped my way through the high-paced world of five-star hotel pastry life, learning the magic of precision, patience, and a perfectly torched meringue.
Then came an unexpected plot twist — I swapped my chef whites for a front-of-house role as a Spa Receptionist at the same hotel. While it meant stepping away from the kitchen, it brought a new layer to my hospitality style: warm welcomes, impeccable hosting, and a newfound passion for training others.
Fast forward a few years (and a couple of interesting career adventures later), I’ve found my way back to what makes me feel most like myself — baking for people, creating edible joy, and piping my way through life. I now create custom cakes and cupcakes for any celebration, using real butter, real flowers, and plastic icing ONLY when necessary (not my fave ;)). My go-to? Classic Swiss Buttercream — smooth, silky and delightful to work with.
